About the Resole
Climbing shoes take a beating — and the rubber on the bottom wears down faster than the rest of the shoe. A half sole replaces just the front portion of the sole, where most of the wear happens. It's a cost-effective way to restore grip and performance without going through the pain of breaking in a new pair. If you notice the rubber thinning or losing traction on the front half of your shoe, it's probably time for a resole.
The rand is the rubber wrapping the front of your shoe — the part that takes the most abuse from toe hooks and edging. When it wears through, it compromises the fit and feel of the shoe. Most of the time, this shows up as isolated wear at the very tip, which we repair as a toe cap — our most common rand repair. If the wear extends across a wider area, we'll do a half rand replacement instead, covering more of the front section for a cleaner, more durable result. Note: a rand repair is always done alongside a half sole or full sole — the sole must come off first to properly access the rand.
We use Vibram rubber — trusted by professional resolers worldwide.
Sole: Vibram 7520 XS Grip 2 — 4mm
Rand: Vibram 7510 Grip — 1.8mm
Both compounds are specifically engineered for rock climbing, offering excellent friction, durability, and sensitivity.
In most cases, shoes can still be resoled even if they look rough. However, if the damage is severe enough that your toes are visibly exposed through the front of the shoe, a resole may no longer be possible. If we receive your shoes and determine they're beyond repair, we'll email you right away and issue a full refund minus the round-trip shipping cost. When in doubt, send them in — we'll take a look and give you an honest assessment.
Quality & Satisfaction
Your satisfaction matters to us. If there's any issue with the quality of our work, contact us within 7 days of receiving your shoes and send photos to support@gripino.com. We'll make it right at no additional cost — whether that means a fix or a refund. We photograph every pair thoroughly before starting work, so we can address any concerns with full transparency.
